Tim Williams: to release When Work Is Done on October 2

Posted by Flick in News on 08 28th, 2007 | View Comments

Tim WilliamsTim Williams will be releasing his sophomore LP on October 2 on Dovecote Records, titled When Work Is Done. “Tim worked with producer Dave Lynch (The Duke Special, The Late Greats) who together successfully put together a strikingly confident work that boldly drifts from keyboard-laden marches (To And From Tomorrow), to earnest Americana (Lessons) and fuzzed-out electro balladry (Out There).”

Novel will be the first single for When Work Is Done, originally on Williams‘ Merchant EP. Also originally on his Merchant EP,Williams rerecorded I Am Wearing It, Out There, and Bills. The remaining six tracks were “recorded over the past year in London and his beloved Eastbourne in the UK.”

Tim Williams demoed nearly 100 songs in his apartment in preparation of recording When Work Is Done. The night before Paul Wilkinson (Amazong Pilots) and Tim had plans to begin recording the album, Tim’s apartment was robbed. “The day before he arrived my apartment was broken into and my computer – with all my demos on it – was stolen along with my glasses and beard trimmer,” explains Tim. “I think it happened for a reason. The songs I remembered are the songs that needed to be on this record.”

“In the face of losing months and months of painstaking effort Williams purchased a four-track and demoed the fifty or so songs that he could remember. Eventually 25 were selected to be laid to tape back in England and in July of 2006 Williams headed back across the pond for the two-week long sessions. While the process went along well, when Williams arrived back in New York he felt unsatisfied. Four months later the singer boarded yet another Britain-bound flight for mixing, more programming, and ultimately the addition of two new compositions.” (Dovecote)

Tim Williams writes desperate ballads and catchy indie-pop melodies, perfect songs to listen to while you stroll around. Williams has a knack for creating autumn-esque music that mimic the feel of leaves skipping along the sidewalk, though, When Work Is Done will be Tim’s most aggressive set of songs to date.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
