This Is Ivy League: self-titled

Posted by Flick in News on 04 9th, 2008 | View Comments

This Is Ivy LeagueAny music fan of the 1960s bemoaning the lack of good music in today’s digital revolution should check out This Is Ivy League. Their full length self-titled reminds us of Simon and Garfunkel, Belle and Sebastian, and Camera Obscura. Better yet, This Is Ivy League is a Brooklyn duo between Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackinton. They may be the only living boys in New York.

This Is Ivy League debuted with London Bridges EP in 2006 and grabbed the attention of indie lovers. This Is Ivy League is sure to gather the same sentiments. This Is Ivy League was recorded in their Brooklyn apartments, though don’t assume it has a lo-fi feel.

“Alex and Ryland met in 1997 in High School. Both were avid guitar players and both played in local bands with varying degrees of accolade. Alex got Ryland a job waiting tables at “Mr. Deli’s Jewish Delicatessan,” in Boca Raton, Florida. A few years later, Alex went off to pursue a degree in the culinary arts while Ryland procured his BFA in Acting. The two lost touch for seven years. Ivy League formed in August of 2005 when Ryland discovered that his old friend Alex was not only still playing music but living just ten minutes away from him in Brooklyn, NY. The duo quickly began writing songs together. They hope you enjoy their music as much as they do.”

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
