ThinkSync Films and Raindance hold competition to emphasize independent music in films

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 03 12th, 2007 | View Comments

ThinkSync Films has teamed up with Raindance to hold a competition for independent film makers to emphasize independent music in films. "The theme of the competition is 'Twist', but this can be interpreted in any way you wish." A maximum length of ten minutes has been placed on the films.

Select independent artists and record labels have offered a song that film makers must incorporate into their short film. More than one song can be used, and film makers can use segments of songs as long as the song is not altered (such as a remix). The aim of the competition is not to promote music videos, but rather to emphasize the role that music has in films.

The competition is designed to search out, celebrate and reward creative new independent film making talent, with particular attention to the role music plays. The premise behind the competition being to highlight and encourage the use of independent music within film and the resulting event an exciting, innovative fusion of independent music and film.

The deadline for the competition is June 30. ThinkSync Films and Raindance will select five short films to be screened at a special event, at which time the winning film will be announced. £1000 will be given to the sole winner, "and free use of music from the Cacophony Music catalogue for their next production."

Efterklang, Colleen, and A Hawk And A Hacksaw of Leaf Label have made songs available, as well as Maria Taylor and Ladyfinger of Saddle Creek Records. Other record labels involved include: Bella Union, Big Dada, Catskills, Central Control, Chew the Fat, DHR, Dome, Emissions, Faith and Hope, Geist Records, Just Music, Narnack Records, Ninja Tune, Rotters Golf Club, Southern Fried Records, and Wah Wah 45s.

For the past fifteen years Raindance has promoted British independent film by hosting the Raindance Film Festival. Cacophony Music is a "music rights management company that represents both the master and publishing catalogues of a wide variety of independent labels & artists for use within Film, TV, Advertising and other facets of the multimedia industry."

Efterklang – Towards The Bare Hill
Colleen – Sea of Tranquillity
A Hawk And A Hacksaw – God Bless The Ottoman Empire
Maria Taylor – Lost Time
Ladyfinger – Smuggler

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
