The Wars of 1812: Status Quo Ante Bellum

Posted by Flick in News on 03 18th, 2008 | View Comments

A new band that deserves your attention is The Wars of 1812. They released their debut full-length today, Status Quo Ante Bellum, recorded in the summer of 2006 during a five day stay in a basement studio. Afternoon Records have packaged these nine songs and we’re already hooked on the first single, Radios Unsigned, which opens the album.

Ian Anderson of Afternoon Records describes the personalities of the band, “They are a soft-spoken, smiley band that writes music reminiscent of sleepovers and overnight escapades involving kick the can and seven minutes in heaven.” Their music reflects their trates, as Status Quo Ante Bellum is a relaxing album that pulls you in, leaving you unable to hit stop until the last song is played. You almost expect to hear the sounds of a crackling needle as these songs have a timeless warmth to them.

Wanting to pursue the band in full, the band relocated from De Pere, Wisconsin to Twin Cities, Minnesota in August of 2007, moving into a large house where they can write and record together. Now that Status Quo Ante Bellum has been released, expect The Wars of 1812 to tour and begin working on their follow-up.

“Between the four of us, we have accrued a myriad of tunes, for about four or five albums in fact. We have been stagnant for two long. We need to record these songs so we can write some new ones,” blogged Peter Rosewall.

The CD release party for Status Quo Ante Bellum will be held on April 4 at The Varsity Theatre in Minnesota.

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
