The Twilight Sad: Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It Did.

The Twilight Sad - Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It DidThe Twilight Sad is following their acclaimed debut full-length with an EP called Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It Did., coming June 9 on FatCat Records. Four of the songs are reworked renditions of their songs from the acclaimed Fourteen Autumns, Fifteen Winters, along with a Daniel Johnston and Jad Fair cover, Some Things Last A Long Time. All six songs are streaming at FatCat Records’ website, revealing dense layers yet less emphasis on distorted guitars.

“It was engineered by Iain Cook at Alucard Studios G41 and features guest contributions from My Latest Novel‘s Laura Mcfarlane on violin, and Campbell McNeil from Aereogramme on occasional bass.”

An unreleased song called Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It Did., title track of the EP, is a conclusion of the saturated Talking With Fireworks/Here, It Never Snowed from Fourteen Autumns, Fifteen Winters where the guitar melody of the unreleased song ended the last fifty seconds of the original track. “Someone’s on the run, and I’m sorry…” answers the sinister “And does your fear not grow when you see that your all mine, see that your all mine with a knife in your chest.”

Andy MacFarlane explained why they chose to rework these songs:

“We wanted to record re-worked versions of some songs from ‘Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters’ as we felt there was another side to some of them that worked just as well as the originals. The idea came about from playing certain gigs or sessions with a more basic line-up of just fan organ, glockenspiel and percussion. We developed that sound in the recordings by plugging the fan organ through effects, adding guitars, drones, violins and experimenting with the alternate sound.”

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
