The Innocence Mission: We Walked In Song released in Europe

Posted by Flick in News on 08 29th, 2007 | View Comments

The Innocence Mission have released We Walked In Song in the UK and Europe, on August 28. Fargo Records is distributing this timeless album in France and Switzerland. In July the band exclusively released Song from Holland, as a single on iTunes.

We Walked in Song continues the band’s unmistakable sound, with a pump organ sifting in and out. The entire album was recorded and produced by the band.

We Walked In Song was released in the US in March, through Badman Recording Company. Since then the album was printed in vinyl, a fitting format for The Innocence Mission’s warm sound.

Karen Smiling While Playing Karen Peris wrote all eleven tracks on We Walked in Song, each with a tinge of sadness and reflection. Karen lost her father in 2006 when she began writing songs for the album. Badman Records writes, “Sometime after the passing of her father, Karen began to write some of the most beautiful and heartfelt material I have heard from the band. I believe she turned to songwriting as a way of coping with this great loss, which was compounded with the loss of her mother a few years ago, and celebrating those she loves in her life.”

After the three members performed together in their high school play, Godspell, they decided to continue playing together as The Innocence Mission. They released their first album, self-titled, in 1989. We Walked In Song is their ninth album and follows Now The Day Is Over which featured an album of covers and lullabies they recorded for Karen and Don Peris‘ child. The 2003 release of Befriended was selected by NPR as Album of the Year, just one example of the acclaim this band has received. “Through eighteen years of recordings and tours, both on their own and with Natalie Merchant, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris and 16 Horsepower, the band has gained legions of devoted listeners.”

Karen Peris Fans of The Innocence Mission will enjoy Sufjan Stevens‘ cover of The Lakes of Canada. The video was filmed by LaBlogotheque, with Sufjan plucking his banjo atop of Memorial Hall’s tin roof in Cincinnati on a cold windy spring day.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
