Flick: favorite albums of 2007

December 29th 2007 by Flick in Opinions 0

10. Rosie Thomas - These Friends of Mine
Just as the title portrays, you feel as though you’re sitting in the studio with Rosie.

9. Seabear - The Ghost that Carried Us Away
This album makes me miss Iceland, though I’ve never been.

8. Taxi Taxi! - Taxi Taxi!
I could sit and listen to these Swedish twins sing all day.

7. Radiohead - In Rainbows
Not only did this album stir the industry up, these songs will be favorites for a long time.

6. Shout Out Louds - Our Ill Wills
Our Ill Wills struck me as an album I had heard before, yet never had.

5. The Innocence Mission - We Walked In Song
The Innocence Mission has a way of grabbing my emotions like no other band.

4. Blonde Redhead - 23
Phenomenal album. It felt like a chemical addiction and I kept sneaking spins.

3. The Forms - The Forms
Twelve songs, each under four minutes, and I find myself listening to them several times on repeat.

2. Pela - Anytown Graffiti
My friends will attest that I asked them if they had heard Pela yet, and made sure they had.

1. Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns, Fifteen Winters
Maybe it’s the thick Scottish accent, the shoegaze distortion, and lyrics that plot out like a well written film, but this album continues to amaze me.

The Innocence Mission: We Walked In Song released in Europe

August 29th 2007 by Flick in News 0

The Innocence Mission have released We Walked In Song in the UK and Europe, on August 28. Fargo Records is distributing this timeless album in France and Switzerland. In July the band exclusively released Song from Holland, as a single on iTunes.

We Walked in Song continues the band’s unmistakable sound, with a pump organ sifting in and out. The entire album was recorded and produced by the band.

We Walked In Song was released in the US in March, through Badman Recording Company. Since then the album was printed in vinyl, a fitting format for The Innocence Mission’s warm sound.

Karen Smiling While Playing Karen Peris wrote all eleven tracks on We Walked in Song, each with a tinge of sadness and reflection. Karen lost her father in 2006 when she began writing songs for the album. Badman Records writes, “Sometime after the passing of her father, Karen began to write some of the most beautiful and heartfelt material I have heard from the band. I believe she turned to songwriting as a way of coping with this great loss, which was compounded with the loss of her mother a few years ago, and celebrating those she loves in her life.”

After the three members performed together in their high school play, Godspell, they decided to continue playing together as The Innocence Mission. They released their first album, self-titled, in 1989. We Walked In Song is their ninth album and follows Now The Day Is Over which featured an album of covers and lullabies they recorded for Karen and Don Peris‘ child. The 2003 release of Befriended was selected by NPR as Album of the Year, just one example of the acclaim this band has received. “Through eighteen years of recordings and tours, both on their own and with Natalie Merchant, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris and 16 Horsepower, the band has gained legions of devoted listeners.”

Karen Peris Fans of The Innocence Mission will enjoy Sufjan Stevens‘ cover of The Lakes of Canada. The video was filmed by LaBlogotheque, with Sufjan plucking his banjo atop of Memorial Hall’s tin roof in Cincinnati on a cold windy spring day.

The Innocence Mission: album coming in March 2007

September 27th 2006 by Flick in Uncategorized 0

Karen PerisThe Innocence Mission has announced that they have an "album of new songs" coming in March 2007. This album is following Now The Day Is Over, which featured lullabies and ballads for their child, such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Moon River. This will be their ninth full-length album.

The Innocence Mission is signed to Badman Records, and have toured with the likes of Natalie Merchant, Emmylou Harris and 16 HorsePower. Their European label, Agenda Music, reveals: The members of the innocence mission were still in high school when they became friends and bandmates. Singer-songwriter Karen Peris, her husband, guitarist Don Peris and bassist Mike Bitts first performed together as the stage band for their Lancaster, Pa. Catholic school production of "Godspell".

The Innocence Mission reprinted Birds of My Neighborhood in April, an album that went out of print several years ago. We'll keep you updated on this critically acclaimed band. Sufjan Stevens described Birds of My Neighborhood, "Panic and joy, a terrible sense of awe, the dark indentations of memory all come together at once, accompanied by the joyful strum of an acoustic guitar."

Don PerisDon Peris of The Innocence Mission released a new album earlier this year called Go When The Morning Shineth. Denison Witmer and Don jumped on tour to support Don's new album this summer. Don and his wife, Karen, has produced and appeared on most of Witmer's work, adding their unmistakable touch. Denison played classical, acoustic, and electric guitar on several songs on Go When The Morning Shineth.

August 22nd 2006 by Flick in Uncategorized 0

Don Peris of The Innocence Mission released a new album called Go When The Morning Shineth. It seems like the perfect fit, Denison Witmer and Don jumped on tour to support the new album (and Denison’s upcoming release). Don and his wife, Karen, has produced and appeared on several of Denison’s album, adding their unmistakable touch. Denison played classical, acoustic, and electric guitar on several songs on Go When The Morning Shineth.

Having first mentioned that they were recording 6 months ago, The Innocence Mission is back in the studio to work on the as-of-yet unnamed album (well, not announced publicly yet). This album is following their Now The Day Is Over album, which featured lullabies and ballads for their child, such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Moon River. This will be their ninth full-length album.

The Innocence Mission has also reprinted Birds of My Neighborhood, an album that went out of print several years ago. We’ll keep you updated on this critically acclaimed band. Sufjan Stevens described Birds of My Neighborhood, “Panic and joy, a terrible sense of awe, the dark indentations of memory all come together at once, accompanied by the joyful strum of an acoustic guitar.”
