Tacks, The Boy Disaster: working songs
Listening to music can become a problem. Especially at work. I’m not talking about safety regulations on, let’s say, a construction site for example. And I’m not talking about suspicious looks from all the other co-workers at the office either. (Although I get some of those quite regularly… but, well, that’s a different story.)
What I mean is the right choice of an artist, album or song that doesn’t just fit your mood, but also “keeps you going” – the right tracklist for a day full of tasks and challenges that need your motivated but not distracted approach.
In my case one of the main bands on this hypothetical tracklist is Tacks, The Boy Disaster. And the reason for this might be just pretty simple: There’s something very genuine about this group from Austin, TX, that comes across as uplifting without being intrusive. Think The Little Ones without too much of the bubbliness; think Voxtrot without the hype. But don’t get me wrong: I appreciate influences like that and I love both of these aural gems.
Instead you should get a good impression while listening to the Tacks, The Boy Disaster Daytrotter Session – they’ll grab your attention effortlessly, hovering through the somehow urgent atmosphere of their own songs.
Let’s take Matilda for example: an arrangement with a mesmeric acoustic-guitar in the background and contained piano notes buzzing around… I could imagine myself sitting amongst those guys on a breezy porch while writing a novel (and still not being distracted from the path of my own thoughts and cogitations)…
Anyway, I’m drifting off. Unfortunately I don’t know too much about the band itself. No article on wikipedia yet and a pretty sparse website. But I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more from them – even if it might take awhile for their merits to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
