St. Vincent: tour and release of Marry Me

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 06 5th, 2007 | View Comments

St. VincentSt. Vincent has signed with Beggars Banquet and will be launching a tour in July to support her debut album, Marry Me. The the first nine shows of the tour will be supported by Scout Niblett, and Death Vessel will be joining her for the final three. Marry Me will be released on July 10, four days after the tour kicks off in Annie's home state.

The touring life isn't new to Annie Clark, the curator of St. Vincent, as she has toured extensively with John Vanderslice and ,most recently, The Arcade Fire. She has also performed in Polyphonic Spree's and Sufjan Stevens' bands.

"On Marry Me we see a smartly crafted deluge of guitar, bass, and beats pulsing forward with warmth and immediacy alongside Annie’s classy soprano. Her lyrics can be weird or tongue-in-cheek or dead serious, capturing verily what it feels like to be 23 years old in America and caught up in the delirium of love blues and wartime blues and the various swashbuckling adventures of existence. Horns and strings cry out brassy and full-bodied over digital keyboards. Songs rock out vigorously, break down into squiggling post-noise-rock deconstructions, roll out mellow and slow-flowing as a river. Backing harmonies and kiddie choirs loom in the distance, rise, and lilt above the stately grandiosity. And she keeps good company. David Bowie’s longtime pianist Mike Garson shows up on two songs, as does Brian Teasley from Man or Astro-man but, mostly, it’s just Annie, a multi-instrumentalist for a new era." (MySpace)

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
