The Six Parts Seven: Casually Smashed To Pieces coming in January

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 11 25th, 2006 | View Comments

The Six Parts SevenIf abstract instrumental albums are your thing, then The Six Parts Seven's new LP will appeal. Casually Smashed to Pieces will be released on January 23, their shortest disc to date. The Six Parts Seven mixes in guitar, banjo, lap steel, rhodes piano, clarinet, cornet, and of course the bass and drums. Suicide Squeeze will be putting the album out, the band's fifth album with the independent label.

The band from Kent, Ohio spent two weeks in Seattle with Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Minus the Bear, Isis), recording at Studio Litho. They then tracked for fourteen hours at The Icehouse, a venue that used to be a large cold-storage facility. Large open rooms are great to record in, and the band blogged:

"The vast interior space bounced sound, and provided us with longest natural decay I have ever experienced. Imagine a trumpet, blowing a note, and that note hanging, moving about, ten seconds after it had been sent. Like a punch in the stomach: all that expanded air; listening in slow motion."

Expect to see tour dates lined up soon as The Six Parts Seven support their new album. Unfortunately the band doesn't have a website, so their MySpace page will suffice.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
