Sigur Rós released Hvarf-Heim two disc album today, November 6. Hvarf-Heim are actually two albums packaged together.
Hvarf, which is Icelandic for haven, comprises of five unreleased tracks recorded during previous album sessions. Flip the case over for Heim, Icelandic for home, for six live acoustic recordings, “comprising delicate new unplugged versions of some of Sigur Rós‘ best moments, which have never been performed before.” (Beggars Banquet)
Hvarf-Heim is a companion to Heima, Sigur Rós’ 97 minute documentary film that is currently premiering in art-houses around the world. John Best followed Sigur Rós as they performed around Iceland.
Heima will be released as a dual-DVD; disc one is the documentary, and disc two brings two additional hours of live performances.
“In 2006 having toured the world over in support of their ‘Takk…‘ album, Sigur Rós returned home to play a series of free, unannounced concerts in Iceland. ‘Heima’ is a unique record of that tour filmed in 16 locations across the island, taking in the biggest and smallest shows of their career.” (Beggars Banquet)
The beauty of Iceland was captured through photography in a 116 page book, packaged in a special edition of Heima and Hvarf-Heim. Heima was released on November 5 around the world, and will be released in North America on November 20.
A limited edition 7″ vinyl was released in October with two tracks: Hljómalind and Starálfur.
Hvarf-Heim is available at 7digital.
