Sigur Ros: recording new album

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 01 20th, 2007 | View Comments

Sigur RosSigur Rós is recording their follow-up to Takk…, and "expect to finish it" this year. This album may be released in 2007, though "nothing is confirmed at this point." This will be Sigur Rós' fourth full-length album since they formed in 1994.

Georg Holm, bassist for the band, explained to Iceland's Fréttablaðið newspaper, “We have finished recording a few songs but some more things need to be done. We don’t know exactly where the album is heading yet. We are really just experimenting at this stage. some of the songs we recorded are old songs which we had written a while ago, unreleased material which we never got a chance to finish. We decided it was time they were recorded.”

Sigur Rós used analog recording equipment to record Takk… (Icelandic for thanks), spending 18 months in the band's Sundlaugin recording studio. Taking less time in the studio may point to a different approach. Since this album will have several older yet unreleased songs, it shouldn't take as much time to write and record. It is unknown if this album will be in Icelandic, English, or Hopelandic (a derivative of the ancient Essil language).

Amiina, the string quartet for Sigur Rós, are releasing a 12" vinyl single on Rumraket. The vinyl's fourth song is a remix of Seoul by Frakkur, Jónsis solo project. They are planning to release a full-length this spring as well. "While playing mostly violin, viola, and cello, Amiina also regularly features the office bell, water glasses, and musical saw," mentioned CMJ. Amiina are also planning a fourteen gig tour in US and Canada.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
