Sigur Ros: five releases in 2007 and 2008

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 04 24th, 2007 | View Comments

A series of exciting announcements have been made by Sigur Rós, the Icelandic post-modern wonder. Their latest full-length, Takk…, took 18 months to record in their analog studio, so the precedent would lead one to believe that 2008 would be the earliest to expect new material. Surprisingly, Sigur Rós announced this week that they will be releasing a 12" vinyl, a book, and four CDs/DVDs in 2007.

Sigur Rós is releasing a limited print of In A Frozen Sea on June 1. A 12" vinyl will be packaged with a 32 page publication. "The book contains exclusive imagery from the band’s already legendary icelandic tour of last summer. The 32 page publication will come encased in a 12″ vinyl jacket and be available on its own or as part of a limited edition vinyl package with three of the band’s 12″ lps."

Hlemmer, the 19-track instrumental electronic soundtrack, will be released in July as a CD and DVD package. "Hlemmur is a film which revolves around the lives of some unfortunate destitute men who spend most of their time in and around Reykjavík's main bus station, hlemmur." The soundtrack for the documentary was originally released in 2002.

August will bring a new EP, with a new version of Von, along with the tracks, Salka, Lagið í gær, Rokklagið, and a bonus live video.

More live footage of "Sigur Rós on the road" will comprise of an October release, a DVD which hasn't been titled yet.

Sigur Rós is recording an acoustic LP in May, with plans to release it in October. "Yesterday [April 22], Sigur Rós held a secret acoustic show in Gamla Borg coffee shop, located in in the 300-person town of Borg. In what must be the band’s most personal concert to date, friends and family were invited to come and listen to some unplugged songs while pancakes and waffles were served. The band was accompanied by Amiina and played seven acoustic songs in total, one of which was brand new. The band will be heading to a summerhouse next month to record some of the new versions played yesterday, as well as some brand new acoustic songs."

In 2002 Sigur Rós took time away from their band to focus on an orchestral side project called Odin's Raven Magic. Concert footage of Odin's Raven Magic will be released on a dual packaged DVD and CD in January, 2008. "The work is based on the 14th century Icelandic poem about a great banquet held by the gods in Valhalla."

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
