Rocky Votolato: The Brag and Cuss, plus two EPs

Posted by Flick in News on 04 2nd, 2007 | View Comments

Rocky VotolatoRocky Votolato is in the middle of a US tour, trying out new songs that he recently recorded for his new album, The Brag and Cuss. Out on June 19, Barsuk licensed The Brag and Cuss from Second Nature Recordings , whom Rocky had released his previous music through. Gauging on the strength of Rocky's songwriting, and the talent that was brought into the studio, this album will be another captivating disc. The Brag and Cuss "sees Rocky moving from the minimal acoustic guitar and vocals of his previous release, makers, to a fuller sound," announced Barsuk.

"Most of the record was played by a full band, featuring James McAllister (Sufjan Stevens) on drums, Bill Herzog (Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter) on bass, Casey Foubert (Pedro the Lion) on electric guitar, banjo, mandolin and percussion, and Rick Steff (Cat Power, Hank Williams Jr.) on keyboards and accordion."

Not very many people would consider releasing music they wrote when they were 16. Second Nature Recordings is rereleasing A Brief History on April 24, compiling seven songs that were written during his teen years; Your Best Guess had printed 1,000 copies of Rocky's first recording sessions in 1999.

Rocky is digitally releasing a second album on April 24 through iTunes, also through Second Nature Recordings. End Like This is "an iTunes only release of the 3 B-sides left over from the Makers sessions."

A Brief History EP track listing:
1. One More Work Song Blues

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
