Radiohead: In Rainbows to be given away on October 10

Posted by Flick in News on 10 1st, 2007 | View Comments

Radiohead - In RainbowsRadiohead is shocking the industry by giving away their new album, In Rainbows, asking fans to pay what they want. “It’s up to you,” reads their website, to decide what the album is worth. Radiohead is only charging a minimum payment of 45 pence to cover credit card handling fees according to the Telegraph‘s report.

In Rainbows will also be released as a discbox that cost £40.00 to make. In Rainbows discbox will ship on December 3, but will include a digital download, accessible on October 10.

Radiohead‘s In Rainbows discbox includes two 12 inch heavyweight vinyl records and two CDs:

“This consists of the new album, In Rainbows, on CD and on 2 x 12 inch heavyweight vinyl records. A second, enhanced CD contains more new songs, along with digital photographs and artwork. The discbox also includes artwork and lyric booklets. All are encased in a hardback book and slipcase.”

In Rainbows will be released on October 10 without the help of a record label, and Radiohead will benefit 100% without a record label to split profits with. Radiohead will also gain from increased concert ticket sales. In Rainbows breaks a four year silence since Hail to the Thief was released in 2003.

The speculations around it were too crazy. I had been reading the “DEAD AIR SPACE”- Radiohead’s blog – and they were posting a sort of random images there and the fans – including me – figured out that Radiohead was speaking to us in code.

The first one would appeared on September 20, was deciphered as stating: ‘Yes we are still alive’.
A further posting on September 21 reads: ‘Blink your eyes one for yes two for no code code code.’

So far all the messages have been decoded as:

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
