Being away from Puddlegum for several months was difficult, and it’s nice to be back! I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed writing these articles. Nor did I realize how many people read Puddlegum until I heard back from people in the music industry.
You may notice that we have a new website. Click on the “share” button and you’ll find a row of networking sites you can post the story. If you appreciate the articles, please share them… this is the best way to spread the Puddlegum.
I have a stacks of CDs on my table that I need to catch up on, and hundreds of emails in my inbox that I have neglected. I apologize if you’ve sent me your CD and nothing has been written. We’ll work hard at catching up.
This has been a strange year. I spent the first half of the year working on the blog/label concept, while I was producing an album that will sadly never be released. I’m refusing to give up on music, so I added a page on Puddlegum with examples of songs I’ve engineered, produced, and mixed. I’ll continue to add to this page as I’m honored with more experiences. If you’re looking for an engineer, producer, or have an album that needs mixed, please consider me.
On a more personal note, my wife and I are expecting our second child on April 1, 2009 (no joke). I’m heading back to college to major in Informatics (an IT field that studies how humans can better interact with data and technology), and I hope to make contributions to the music community using the knowledge I learn.
I have also been soaking up Ubuntu, a phenomenal Linux OS distribution. I’m sure I’ll have plenty to say about Ubuntu and music in future articles.
My New Years resolution for 2008 was a commitment to listening to music that was recorded from 1930 – 1980… quite a huge undertaking! The consequence is I’ve fallen in love with classic jazz from the 1950/1960s (Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, etc.), and realized how much I appreciate Bob Dylan’s `60s album, Django Reinhardt’s influence in the `30s, and a host of other artists. It’s been fun and I hope to renew my commitment in 2009. I’m sure I’ll post video playlists or write articles about some of these artists as I’m inspired.
All this to say, I’m excited about writing for Puddlegum again.

I’m excited to see Puddlegum back again too, Flick – I noticed some activity on the RSS feed the other day, and saw your post about resurrecting the blog. I had no idea you’d be up and running again so quickly!
Well, looking forward to whatever you have to say, and wishing you best of luck for the future!
Woot pgum! I was wondering the “music” folder in my rss feed had been rather empty lately. Nice to see the old name is back again
Thanks Greg and Gerard! I really missed Pgum and kept finding stories I wanted to write but couldn’t since the site wasn’t done. Stepping away from it for a few months was like being away from my kid.
