The National: release Boxer
The National have slated their plans for the rest of 2007. Besides an as of yet three month break in the fall, the band will spend the summer on a sold-out North American tour, hitting up Europe in July, and returning to the UK in November. Next week The National will perform five shows at New York's Bowery Ballroom, each night with a different opening act.
The National is supporting the May release of Boxer, an album that did not disappoint music critics, building on the success of Alligator. The album pulls on more instrumentation than their previous works, showing maturity from an already seasoned band. Matt Berninger writes pensive lyrics that listeners can relate with, capturing thoughts that reflect an inner conversation.
The iTunes version of Boxer is bundled with two bonus songs, Blank Slate and Santa Clara, which are available with the purchase of the entire album. Mistaken Strangers is the album's first single and music video. The UK single release also contained the two b-sides that iTunes is offering.
The National spent thirteen months to write Boxer in their Brooklyn homes. Most of the album was recorded at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Peter Katis (Interpol, Spoon) and the band produced and mixed the album.
