The National: new album in May

The National The National have been working on their new album since June 2006, looking at a May 2007 release. In the fall of 2006 The National played a short tour, between recording their new album. During the tour they debuted a few new National songs. When Alligator was released in 2005, it was widely embraced by the blogging community. The popularity of the band continued to grow, so expect to see Beggars Banquet heavily push The National's follow-up album.

Bryce Dessner and Padma Newsome from The National are in a side project called The Clogs. Bryce plays guitar and Padma plays viola in the band. Their latest album, The Lantern was released in February 2006. "From the immediacy of folk music, through twisted Americana to the complexity of modernism, their sound marks a new and beautifully strange stage in the evolution of 21st century acoustic-electronic music," explains their website.

On January 18 and 19 The Clogs will perform at the Syndey Festival in Australia. Seeing that half of the band is from Australia, they wrote "We're looking forward to seeing all of our Australian friends and family with great anticipation!"

Twin brothers Bryce and Aaron Dessner from The National continue to develop their record label, Brassland. It was through Brassland that The National released their first two albums, along with albums by The Clogs. Brassland bands Baby Dayliner, Devastations, Erik Friedlander, and Pela showcased at the 2006 CMJ Music Marathon. Brassland continues to manage many of The National tours.
