Mute Math hits Plan B

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 10 10th, 2006 | View Comments

What do you do when your record label loses interest and your home city is destroyed by a hurricane? Mute Math found themselves in this difficult situation when New Orleans was swept under water. The solution they found was to live on the road, independently release an album and make it available only at shows until they could release it later.

The plan seemed to have worked. Spin named them artist of the day on September 28, and MTV pushed Mute Math on You Hear it First from September 20 to 25. The keytar slinging synth-rock band released their full-length Mute Math on September 26 on their own Teleprompt label (distributed through Warner Brothers) and stayed on the road. The album features remastered versions of songs from their popular Control EP, and is packaged with a limited edition Live At The El Rey EP.

Mute Math's fan-base is going strong, with over 94,000 Myspace friends, and they release a video blog of their live performances on a regular basis. For their fall tour they are inviting fans to create a video blog from their shows, post it at YouTube, and tag it "mutemath". (Note that not every venue will allow video taping, so we've marked the venues that permit cameras with a "*".) Mute Math will showcase videoblogs that they find interesting. Due to things like this, it's no wonder that their Reset EP sold 30,000 copies, and their debut self-titled has already sold 10,000 copies.

Plan B is the single of the week on iTunes.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
