Mobius Band: Heaven, and short-circuited keyboards

Posted by Flick in News on 09 6th, 2007 | View Comments

Mobius BandMobius Band is releasing their new album called Heaven on October 2, through Misra Records. Much of Heaven‘s sound comes from experimentation, as Noam Schatz found a new obsession of short-circuiting toy keyboards found at yard sales to create unique sounds. These tones are used throughout, so that Heaven “pulses, crackles, and hums.”

Performing over 150 shows in the past two years, Mobius Band will kick off a US and Canada tour in support of Heaven, booked nearly every day from October 1 to December 2. The autumn tour will be shared with Matthew Dear and Tigercity. Thus far they have toured with The National, Editors, and Tom Vek. On September 14 Mobius Band will perform at the Monolith Festival in Morrison, Colorado with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Spoon, Flaming Lips, and others.

Mobius Band spent 19 months writing and recording Heaven; Emery Dobyns (Antony and The Johnsons, Battles) and Eric Spring engineered the album. During that time, “a father passed away suddenly on the cusp of the group’s first national tour. A longtime girlfriend ran off with an old friend. The stresses of New York life were amplified by the inescapable drama of a life on the road, draining the band emotionally and financially.”

Misra Records describes the album:

“Heaven revolves around repeating motifs – decoding the secret language of ex-lovers, the betrayals of quote-unquote friends. It’s melodies are more dynamic, its themes more direct. Where their previous album still grappled with post-collegiate anxiety, here there are larger questions of control, bewilderment, and loss.”

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
