Matt Pond PA: Last Light and tour dates

Posted by Flick in News on 09 25th, 2007 | View Comments

Matt Pond PA is releasingLast Light today, September 25, on Altitude Records. This is his seventh album and the first time Matt Pond produced his own album. His label among others are trumpeting it as his best yet. Neko Case sings a duet with Matt Pond in Taught To Look Away, just one of the many highlights of this album.

Thirteen tracks make up Pond’s Last Light, one that took over a year to write and record. The iTunes version of Last Light list an additional eight songs to the mix, for a total of twenty-one songs. During the summer he released If You Want Blood EP. The five tracks on the limited print EP are included in the iTunes version of Last Light, along with a clean version of Sunlight and two additional songs: Curves In The Road and First Light. Curves In The Road is a bonus track on the LP version of Last Light.

If You Want BloodMatt Pond PA is ready to tour, burying the axe two days after the release, and staying on the road until November 5. The fall tour will take them in a complete circle, from his New York City home to Portland, down to San Diego and across to Atlanta, then back to Brooklyn. Matt Pond will be backed up by Daniel Crowell, Steven Jewett, Matthew Daniel Siskin, and Chris Hansen.

Matt Pond consistently blogs with vulnerable words, sorting things out in his mind, as an open journal for his fans to read. “The reason I moved to New York,” explained the former New Hampshire resident, was September 11. “I don’t know how to explain that to anyone.” His band has begun to post amateur videos on YouTube, with the latest video of the band singing karaoke… any way to connect with his fans, even if it’s a video of Pond building a fire on a beach.

matt pond PA 06The past year certainly came with curves in the road. Last Light was finished in September of 2006, and was originally slated for a spring release. A minefield of unexpected member changes forced Pond to delay the release of this album.

Pond formed a side-project called The Dark Leaves during the wait, releasing a four song self-titled EP. Matt strained his voice while recording for The Dark Leaves EP and practicing for his band, so his doctor ordered him to a whisper during the month of April. “In the process of recording and practicing, I’ve stretched my voice to the point where it stops making more than a scratchy gurgle.”

Matt Pond wrote, “The fall is for touring. And touring. And touring. We spend our summer in anxious anticipation of finally being able to rock with you. All night.”

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
