Mates of State: Re-arrange Us

Posted by Flick in News on 05 13th, 2008 | View Comments

Mates of State is releasing Re-arrange Us on May 20. This album is their fifth full-length since debuting in with a 7″ single in 1999. A vinyl LP with a digital download will be released on June 17.

Re-arrange Us is distinct from their previous albums, due to the added musicians they brought into the studio. Selective about this expansion, the duo added guitar, cello, trumpet, and backing vocals throughout the ten tracks.

Sitting well with Mates of State’s re-arranging, Kori Gardner left her signature organ sound, now playing piano and various synth sounds. No worries, Jason Hammel is still backing Kori with vocals behind his Gretsch Round Badge drum set.

Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla, joins them in Jigsaw, one of the three tracks Walla produced. Other additions include Peter Katis, producer of six tracks, and Jim Eno (Spoon) on percussion, a track he produced.

Other changes are coming to their live shows. The married couple normally perform by themselves, but Barsuk Records has announced they will be “expanding to a multiple member touring outfit for their upcoming shows during the remainder of 2008.” We can assume that their two children will continue to accompany them on the road.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
