Laura Gibson: January tour dates

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 01 4th, 2007 | View Comments

Laura Gibson has announced a January tour to support her debut album, If You Come To Greet Me, released by Hush Records. Gibson will be joined by Cory Gray (Norfolk and Western) on piano and trumpet, while Laura plays her nylon guitar.

If You Come To Greet Me was produced by Laura Gibson's friend, Adam Selzer (Norfolk and Western, M Ward, Decemberists) and Dylan Magierek (Mark Kozelek, The Innocence Mission, Badman Records). Most of the album was recorded and mixed in the Spring of 2006. Gibson's song Hand in Pockets made the 2006 Pdx Pop Now! compilation, and she signed a contract with Portland's Hush Records shortly after.

Laura Gibson is an earthy character. Her website speaks of visiting Emily Dickinson's house, soup recipes, tossing frisbees, and making ice cream. This filters into her music with instruments "from bare-bones guitar and voice, to an orchestra of trumpets, piano, vibraphone, saw, violin, cello, banjo and found sounds." (Hush Records)

Laura Gibson blogged about her writing experience:
"The songs probably sound very nostalgic. I was listening to a lot of old music that I checked out from the Coquille Library, and reading through boxes of my grandparents love letters (I never really got to know my grandparents in person). I also was spending a lot of time reliving childhood experiences with my nephews, and began to see my town, my family and my experience growing up with new eyes… all of these things along with the fact that I am kind of a nostalgic person, resulted in a group of nostalgic songs. These are also the things that brought me back to life after a hard year."

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
