Josh Ottum: It’s Alright EP

Posted by Flick in Puddlegum Archives on 05 16th, 2007 | View Comments

Josh OttumMill Pond Records has released a limited print of It's Alright EP by Josh Ottum. Mike Manning of Mill Pond shared with Puddlegum that the EP is, "a precursor to Josh's full length debut with Mill Pond. The full length, Like the Season, will be available in the Fall of 2008."

The EP promotes the single, It's Alright, with three other tracks, including the It's Alright Nona Track remix. The Fever opens the EP with its hypnotic loops and esoteric phone dialing, and Where Are We At continues Ottum's rhythmic melodies with analog sequences.

Josh Ottum had a strong line-up to work with while recording Like the Season. James McAlister and Casey Foubert, both of whom work with Sufjan Stevens on drums, joined Ottum in the studio. Ottum engineered the album, along with Jon Ervie (Damien Jurado, Presidents of the USA) and Casey Foubert (Pedro the Lion, Sufjan Stevens).

Everything about this EP is rhythmically driven, and it only makes sense when looking at the artists he surrounded himself with. "Protected by an army of five drummers and a patriotically soulful horn section, Like the Season harkens back to the sweet melodic days of 70's pop, i.e., Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan, Randy Newman." (Mill Pond)

Josh Ottum has recently released a music video for It's Alright. Shot with one take, this clever video follows Ottum as he runs around a neighborhood carrying his guitar, with the film speed sped up.

Josh Ottum is heading to Switzerland and Germany through his German label, Tapete Records, performing every night from May 31 through June 18, resting only one evening. The release party for the It's Alright EP will be held on May 18 at Tractor Tavern in Seattle, Washington.

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
