John Vanderslice: new album and Paxil Revolt remix

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 10 7th, 2006 | View Comments

John VandersliceJohn Vanderslice is hiding away at his own recording studio, Tiny Telephone, recording his next full-length, with a permanent band: David Broecker (bass, vocals, keyboards), Dave Douglas (drums, keyboards) and Ian Bjornstad (Wurlitzer, Moog Source). The band should be near completion, according to his latest update. Scott Solter (Spoon, Mountain Goats) is producing the album, set to arrive on Barsuk Records in the spring of 2007.

John Vanderslice shared with RetroLowFi, "We have four tracks finished and, to me, they’re really different. They sound really different from any of the other albums. It sounds like there’s a band in a room." The working titles of the four tracks John is referring to are Summer's Never Gonna End, Tablespoon of Codeine, The Tower, and A Few Nights Ago. Expect the titles of these songs to change… since they are working titles.

Along with the new album is a remix of Pixel Revolt, called Paxil Revolt. Vanderslice has plans of putting the entire album for free on his website in early 2007. John is a firm believer in providing mp3s and being open to his fans.

Analog-based, Tiny Telephone is a recording studio that John Vanderslice opened. Clients include the record labels 4AD, Barsuk, Sub Pop, Jade Tree, and Wichita. It boasts of a beautiful Neve console, recording the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Spoon, Nada Surf, and Mates of State. The Mountain Goats Get Lonely was recorded at Tiny Telephone.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
