John Vanderslice: finished with new album

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 03 4th, 2007 | View Comments

After touring Europe, John Vanderslice and his band has continued recording their next album in John's Tiny Telephone. Van Riker from Barsuk Records just informed Puddlegum, "Seems like JV is turning in his album next week." As for a release date for the new album: "probably May."

This album is being produced by Scott Solter (Spoon, Mountain Goats, Okkervil River) , and Vanderslice decided to approach it as a band instead of a solo project. "This will be a band record. We're trying to play everything live and keep things very simple. We're failing on both counts." In 2006 John solidified his band, which include David Broecker, Dave Douglas, and Ian Bjornstad.

Catch John Vanderslice at South by Southwest at the Barsuk / Saddle Creek Showcase at Parish on March 16. He is also playing at the Barsuk + Arts and Crafts Day Party at Pok-e-Jo's BBQ on March 18. Neither two shows are listed on the South by Southwest website.

John Vanderslice is heading out on a US tour with St. Vincent, from April 6 – May 10. Only Dave Douglas will be backing John for this tour. Fans are invited to record and videotape the shows, as John writes on his website, "Non-commercial audio recording, videotaping and posting of live performances is fine by me."

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
