John Vanderslice: back to recording
John Vanderslice and his band finished touring Europe for the third time in 2006. While at Studio Brussels in October Vanderslice recorded three live tracks and has posted the Mp3s on his site. A rough video of John tracking a new song called Charles Rennie Mackintosh Numbered Lithograph has surfaced on YouTube (here), as well as a more professional/commercial session with Mp3.com (here).
On his return from Europe he wrote, "What a wonderful way to spend the fall, it seems now to be a beautiful blur of cathedrals, kind and thoughtful people, and backstage catering like you wouldn't believe. I think we got looser and had more fun than on any other tour."
Heading into the tour Vanderslice announced that he had finally settled on a permanent set of band members: David Broecker (bass, vocals, keyboards), Dave Douglas (drums, keyboards) and Ian Bjornstad (Wurlitzer, Moog Source), and Dan Brennan (sound, loops). John posted a long humorous list of random names for the new band and invited his fans to help contribute.
After returning home from Europe, John Vanderslice didn't wait long to play his new Yamaha C3 Grand Piano in his Tiny Telephone recording studio. The band is finishing their next album, continuing what was started in October. Before the tour Vanderslice had already recorded seven songs during several recording sessions, and the recording should be complete by the end of January. Scott Solter (Spoon, Mountain Goats) is producing the album.
The new album will sift through Barsuk Records and land in our players sometime in 2007. John Vanderslice has promised to release a remix album of Pixel Revolt, providing the entire album for free in 2007.
