Jeremy Enigk: World Waits

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 08 28th, 2006 | View Comments

October 17 is the day that brings the new Jeremy Enigk solo album. Aptly named, World Waits is being released on Jeremy's indie label, Lewis Hollow Records, 10 years after his first solo album.

Fans of Enigk recognize the label name as one of the songs from his first solo album, Return Of The Frog Queen. Lewis Hollow will be distributed through Reincarnate Records (Sony BMG). His hopes for Lewis Hollow is to bring opportunities as a producer.

On August 4th, Jeremy Enigk performed at Lollapalooza while on tour. Look for the Lollapalooza recordings to hit iTunes in September. Jeremy Enigk first started out with his high school friends, Poor Old Lu, before founding Sunny Day Real Estate in 1993, a band that garnered a strong cult following.

Many refer to Enigk as the man that personified emo. In 1995, Sunny Day called it quits and Jeremy recorded Return of The Frog Queen, while other members played in Foo Fighters. In 1998 they reunited to fulfill their contract with SubPop. In 2003 they reformed as The Fire Theft, and are still together, though not actively pursuing the band. Also in that same year Enigk wrote the incredible score to The United States of Leland.

After Enigk finishes touring for World Waits, The Fire Theft will return to the studio to record their second album, according to a post made on their website. Jeremy Enigk's Myspace states:

"I realized that starting off the record with such a bombastic thing had a tie-in to Return of the Frog Queen," Enigk says, "as if it were taking off where Frog Queen left off." Of course, no one who has followed Enigk's roller coaster career — band break-ups, band reunions, a controversial conversion to Christianity in the mid-90s — would expect him to be the same person he was 10 years ago. And he's not. "I've grown and changed, mainly spiritually," he says. "I think I've become a lot more accepting of things I wasn't back then. Through experiences, I've opened up a little bit. You just grow up." Enigk assembled the songs on WORLD WAITS over the course of the past decade. Among the 10 cuts are two that were slated for a follow up to Return of The Frog Queen that was interrupted by Sunny Day Real Estate activity, others that Enigk originally intended for The Fire Theft, and still others written as recently as six months ago.
