Jazz Meets Indie: Denison Witmer + The Daniel Bennett Group in Boston, November 9

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 10 11th, 2006 | View Comments

Bennett AllianceFile this under "strange." Philadelphia-based indie folk star Denison Witmer is performing in Boston with avante-folk saxophonist Daniel Bennett at the famed Rutman's Violin Shop (11 Westland Ave, Boston) on November 9. Witmer added the date as part of his larger fall tour schedule that is already under way.

Boston-based Daniel Bennett Group plays experimental folk-jazz. Bennett's music sounds like a mix of Steve Reich, Paui Desmond, and Bill Frisell. The show is being produced by Bennett Alliance, a collective of musicians that produce concerts across the northeast. Bennett Alliance is known for organzing concerts that are ecclectic and sometimes bizarre.

The most notable Bennett Alliance production was the annual Open Fest in Rochester, NY. This year's Open Fest featured Colin Stack (classical composer) and LA-based electronica group Joy Electric. The Rutman's show is already the talk of the town in Boston.

Doors open at 7pm and admission is just $8 at the door. This is a must-see for those of us seeking variety, or simply searching for the bizarre.

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
