Irish band Elspeth to debut with Felix Squirrel EP
There is a band that I think you’ll hear more about in the coming months, called Elspeth. They’re a group of five musicians from Newry and Belfast, Ireland that formed in March, 2009. Their debut EP, Felix Squirrel will be release in early January, and they’ve already caught the attention of a few notable ears.
Two months after the band formed, Gideon Coe played their Song For Goodbyes on BBC Radio 6’s Wist Wagon, opening opportunities for more radio airplay on other BBC Radio shows. Since the airplay Elspeth has been playing shows in Belfast, London, and around the UK.
Elspeth – Song For Goodbyes by Elspeth
From what I’ve heard so far from Elspeth, their debut EP is going to be solid, with vocal melodies that emphasize the lyrics well, guitar layers that are explosive at times and noodling at other times, and bass line hooks. Elspeth, whose name is the Scottish form of Elizabeth, are influenced by Radiohead, Stone Roses and The Smiths. We’re looking forward to hearing more and watching this band develop in the coming decade.
