I Make This Sound: Staring At Yourself

Posted by Flick in News on 02 19th, 2008 | View Comments

Jonathan Price had recorded an ep in 2006, called Everything Means Something, but he needed a band to back him up. As the year was coming to a close, I Make This Sound was formed as an eight-piece band; three of the members contribute on the keys and background vocals.

2007 was a year for weekend shows, including a month-long residency at LA’s Bordello, and the recording of their new EP, Staring At Yourself. Their eighth member left after the album was complete, but membership tends to be fluid in a band of this size. I Make This Sound celebrated the independent release of Staring At Yourself at their CD release party on February 13 and positive reviews have already flowed in. The digital release will hit sometime in March.

“Their newest EP, Staring At Yourself, runs the gamut from 50’s malt shop to syncopated 6/4 to droney psychedelia, in that order. Certainly more ambitious than their debut EP, Staring cuts a wide swath with strident hymns on betrayal, corrupt love, and deals with the devil.”

I Make This Sound has teamed up with Puddlegum to feature their EP. If you enjoy the music then support the band by buying their EP for $5 (price includes shipping)… and buy a copy for your friend while you’re at it.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
