Horse Feathers: recording new album, fall tour

Posted by Flick in News on 08 30th, 2007 | View Comments

horse feathers Horse Feathers are heading out east for a fall tour, leaving their Portland home on September 26 and returning October 14. Two weeks before the tour Horse Feathers will be performing with Laura Gibson and Dolorean in Portland at Towne Lounge. They will dash the US with a show at the Knitting Factory in New York City as the pinnacle of their tour. This summer they embarked on a “highly successful” national tour, and spent a day with Daytrotter to record a session.

Horse Feather’s debut of Words Are Dead in 2006 garnered them a Plug Award nomination for Americana album of the year, beaten out by Band of Horses‘ Everything All The Time. They’re currently in the studio recording their follow-up, breaking out the banjo, mandolin, violin, saw, cello, viola, guitar, and piano.

Peter Broderick and Justin Ringle recorded all of the tracks for the Words are Dead album, releasing it on Lucky Madison. The new album will feature Heather Broderick on cello, celeste, and vocals.

Jason Ringle shared with Puddlegum, “Things are going well. I would say at this point the record is a little bit lighter and more orchestrated.”

During their session with Daytrotter, Ringle explained one of their new songs, Father of Failure:

“I’d written it this spring after one of my best friend’s cousins (who I had also known for quite a while) just had died by his own hand. The song isn’t about that necessarily but I was kind of reacting to it musically nonetheless. The mood of the song is in debt to that incident but the lyrics are a bit more impressionistic. I was combining my own experiences in a way with a made up scenario. It’s something I find myself doing in some of my songs.” (Daytrotter)

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
