A Hawk and a Hacksaw has finished recording an instrumental EP with The Hun Hangár Ensemble. The eight track album is called A Hawk And A Hacksaw And The Hun Hangár Ensemble EP and will be released May 7 on The Leaf Label, digitally on April 30.
Ben Winbolt-Lewis of The Leaf Label shared with Puddlegum, "The music was recorded quite quickly, not only for a release, but also for a way for the band members to 'introduce' each other to themselves. I think the long term plan is to record an [full-length] album together, but this is far from definite."
The two bands will share the stage during a UK, Spain, and Portugal tour in May of 2007. "This tour will be the first time A Hawk And A Hacksaw have been able to present the arrangements and instrumentation of their records live on stage, and anticipations are high." A Hawk and a Hacksaw will continue their tour without the The Hun Hangár Ensemble, performing in Austria, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark. On May 30 A Hawk and a Hacksaw will perform with The Hun Hangár Ensemble and Fanfare Ciocarlia, the group that recorded with them on The Way The Wind Blows.
Jeremy Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel) made an "exploratory trip" to Hungary in the fall of 2006 and began working with musicians in Budapest, particularly at Fono, a music shop and venue. The Hun Hangár Ensemble was formed, with Barnes and Heather Trost relocating to Budapest in February to record the EP. The Hun Hangár Ensemble is comprised of Bela Agoston (Hungarian bagpipes, clarinet, alto saxophone, taragoto, viola), Zsolt Kurtosi (upright bass, accordion), Ferenc Kovacs (trumpet, violin), Balazs Unger (cymbalom), and Alex Nielson (percussion).
