Erik Levander: unrecovered but reworked

Erik Levander, residing in Copenhagen, began working on his second album in 2004. Though he never intended in taking four years to finish Kondens, the hard drive that Erik was recording his album on crashed, leaving most of the album unrecoverable. After reworking songs, Kondens is now finished and ready to be released through Rumraket, already available for download on iTunes, eMusic, and Klicktrack.

“In the attempt to save the lost data Erik and Rumraket started the The recovery of Erik Levanders hard drive foundation. More than 1300€ was raised but very unfortunate the data proved impossible to recover even though the drive was handed over to the most fancy lab in Europe. Luckily the lab did not charge for the failed attempt.

Over 60 persons from all over the world had donated more than 15€ to the foundation. All of these are mentioned by name in the artwork for Kondens and all of them play an important part in this release. Everyone of the donors decided to continue as sponsors of the album after the unsuccesful recovery. Erik Levander has since spend many hours to reconstruct the lost material and in the process he has written and recorded new material as well.”

Erik Levander finished the album in July, 2007, and flew to New York to sit in during the mastering with Bo Kondren. The money raised for the recovery of the album was used to cover the mastering and album art costs. Outside of making music, Erik Levander works at an architect’s office in Berlin.
