East Hundred debuts with melodic pop Passenger
East Hundred isn’t waiting long in 2009 to release their debut full length, Passenger, independently releasing Passenger on January 13th with the promotional help of Sneak Attack Media. This Philadelphia band mixes layers of lush guitar tones, selective melodies plucked out on keys, and well pronounced bass lines carrying the songs. East Hundred is fronted by female vocalist Beril Guceri, backed by brothers Brooke and Will Blair, joined by David Sunderland on bass and Susan Gager on keys.
The background to Passenger is intriguing; when Beril Guceri joined the band in 2004 she was dating Brooke Blair. Three years later the band was fully formed, tours were underway and they were working on a new album, Brooke and Blair broke up. Tension that would normally halt a band’s progress, East Hundred began working through the heartache and wrote a “breakup album.” Brian McTear (Matt Pond PA, mewithoutyou) recorded five of Passenger’s nine songs at Miner Street Recordings; the band is far from over.
East Hundred also has a new video for the opening track, Slow Burning Crimes. In it the band playfully builds a “fort” in a living room. They wake their apartment neighbors and a spontaneous concert breaks out in their living room. The video proves you can create a nice low budget video that is equally effective during these difficult economic times.
