David Bazan: tour with Say Hi in a new van
David Bazan of Pedro the Lion and Headphones fame is going on tour with Say Hi (To Your Mom). During the tour Bazan will be joining up with TW Walsh‘s band, The Soft Drugs, for a show in Cambridge, close to where Walsh lives and works as a mastering engineer and software developer.
David Bazan’s first full-length, Curse Your Branches, is his most concrete and well-produced album since he debuted with Pedro the Lion in 1995 with the Whole EP. The lyrics continue Bazan’s honest questioning of his Christian upbringing, while the music draws on his widest musical influences to date.
Released four years after he announced he was going solo, Bazan spent nearly a year recording his solo debut, then toured the US performing 50 house shows. TW Walsh, considered the other half of Pedro the Lion, was involved in some of the recording process as well as mixing/mastering the album. Released on September 1st, Curse Your Branches hit #1 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers chart and broke Billboard’s Top 200 at #116.
Preparing for the Say Hi tour, Bazan needed a new van and a trailer, so his manager printed enough t-shirts that stated, “I helped Bazan buy a van,” and photos of the van were posted on Bazan’s site. The shirts sold out in less than two weeks, supplying the needed funds for them to buy the van on Monday, September 28. The eagerness of his fans to help Bazan fully launch his solo career was revealed with their support to help Bazan… as if anyone had any real doubts that he still had their support.
