Collider: BBM EP

Posted by Flick in Media, Mp3 Singles on 01 21st, 2010 | View Comments

My first ‘find’ of 2010 is a young band called Collider, from San Francisco, named after the large particle accelerators. Their name fits their sound well, with layered sweeping guitar fuzz and melodies that somewhat remind me of The Forms and Film School.

Collider released BBM EP, their second EP in one year2, on December 31st `09, and made it available as a free download on Bandcamp. They spent ten months recording BBM in their rehearsal space, giving it that lo-fi yet confident sound.

The band originated as a project between brothers John and Mark Ricksen in 2004. Collider’s bio explains that they had a studio together in downtown San Francisco, and by 2006 Collider had developed. Billy Boyle, who mastered BBM EP, is their drummer, and Steve Martinez joined them on bass.

You’re from Bloomington, eh? Great town!

I’m a native Hoosier that went to IU a couple of years, but ended up in Detroit now. A “bit” rougher than Bloomington, but AMAZING music scene!

That’s great! What was your favorite venue in Bloomington? Favorite band in town?

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
