Colin Meloy: live album from 2006

Posted by Flick in News on 03 5th, 2008 | View Comments

Colin Meloy - Colin Meloy Sings Live! Two years ago in 2006 Colin Meloy of The Decemberists released a solo ep called Colin Meloy Sings Shirley Collins. In it he covered Shirley Collins songs, an artist that has had tremendous influence on Meloy’s songwriting. Colin toured for two weeks in the US, selling the limited print ep on the road.

During this solo tour Colin Meloy recorded his performances, weeks before The Crane Wife released in October of `06. Fourteen songs have been selected from his solo tour, and are being released as Colin Meloy Sings Live! on April 8 via The Decemberists’ first label Kill Rock Stars. Unlike his previous solo extended-plays, this album will be widely available. Three additional tracks of Colin Meloy bantering are scattered with the songs, including a camp-fire sing along, bringing the album to seventeen tracks.

Kill Rock Stars describes Colin Meloy Sings Live:

‘Colin Meloy Sings Live!’ opens with ‘Devil’s Elbow’ (dating back to his first band, Tarkio), touches on material from The Decemberists’ ‘Castaways and Cutouts’ (‘Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect,’ ‘A Cautionary Song,’ ‘California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade’), ‘Her Majesty the Decemberists’ (‘The Gymnast, High Above the Ground,’ ‘The Bachelor and the Bride,’ ‘Red Right Ankle’) and Picaresque (‘We Both Go Down Together,’ ‘The Engine Driver,’ ‘On the Bus Mall’) and closes with a rarity – ‘Bandit Queen,’ from The Decemberists’ 2006 Kill Rock Stars EP, ‘Picaresqueties.’”
