Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: new album in January

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 10 5th, 2006 | View Comments

Clap Your Hands Say YeahClap Your Hands Say Yeah sat down with Pitchfork and revealed that they have a new album completed and ready to be released on January 30. No longer self-producing, CYHSY brought in Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Sleater-Kinney, Weezer, Mogwai) to help guide the process. CYHSY's Lee Sargent described the album as "an entirely different thing from the first one." He goes on to explain that the song "arrangements are more complex."

Sticking with what worked the first time around, they will be releasing the album independently… on their own label. CYHSY also has plans to release the new album in the UK through Wichita Records, and distribute it around the globe via V2. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah sold over 45,000 copies of ther self-titled disc directly through their website and live performances. Their debut album stayed on iTunes top 100 Alternative Albums for several months after being released online on October 18, 2005.

This summer Clap Your Hands Say Yeah had to cancel tour dates to give Alec Ounsworth's voice a rest. They're back on the road, wrapping up a tour with Architecture in Helsinki, and Takka Takka. The three bands are selling a limited edition split EP with an unreleased song from CYHSY, Some Loud Thunder, which will be on the new full-length in January.

Alec Ounsworth, vocalist for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, has a side-project in Philadelphia called Flashy Python and the Body Snatchers, with two members of The Malarkies. According to Wikipedia, an album is still in the works.

If you're a fan of The Office, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth was playing the background of the Email Surveillance episode (season two) when Jim has a private party for his coworkers and doesn't invite his boss.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
