Chris Walla: solo album release rescheduled

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 11 28th, 2006 | View Comments

Chris Walla (courtesy of Hall of Justice)Chris Walla of the Death Cab for Cutie fame is postponing the release of his solo album. Originally slated for March of 2007 on Barsuk Records, the new "goal is to have the thing finished by the end of April and out by September or so."

Christ Walla and Death Cab for Cutie are twelve days away from finishing their fall tour. Besides touring, Walla has been completing his home studio, Aberta Court (Hall of Justice). He wrote that the "console installation have taken way longer than I anticipated." The consoles in his studio are a custom Neotek Elite console, and a 1976 Quad Eight Ventura. The list of his gear is quite attractive, offering over 25 guitars to choose from, including a 1913 Gibson L-1 acoustic carved arch top.

Death Cab for Cutie's passion for developing artists lends to the emotional attachment that the indie world has with them, and has kept Walla on the roster as a producer of many artists. The Decemberists worked with Chris on their first two albums, and the list of amazing albums produced by Walla will continue to grow. Chris admits that producing is reason his solo album has been delayed as more people vie for his time. "The happiest component of the previously stated delay is that I've been asked to work on the next record by Tegan and Sara. They're just better clients than I am to myself, and their new demos are already my favorite record of this year."

Chris Walla has been generous by posting demoes that he has been recording since 1997. His latest addition is a song called Dave Narcizo, recorded in September 1997 and recently mixed. The liner notes for this song reads: "Dave Narcizo was the drummer in a band called Throwing Muses, formed in Boston sometime in the mid eighties. In 1995 they released a record called 'University' that changed my life a little bit. It's one of those records where a whole mess of factors blankets the whole thing, and can either ruin it completely or bring it to life."

Warne Livesey will be mixing part of Chris Walla's solo album. Livesey has been producing artists for twenty years, including Midnight Oil, Jets Overhead, Matthew Good Band, and The The to name a few.

We'll wait patiently for Walla's September (or so) release.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
