Cheyenne: to release The Whale on December 12

Posted by Flick in News on 09 4th, 2007 | View Comments

CheyenneCheyenne have spent the last two years tracking The Whale, and on December 12 the beast will be self-released. Sneaking peaks on their Myspace, fans can now stream four songs: That Was The Ghost, Broken English, Big Weather, and The Whale.

Outside of Cheyenne, Beau Jennings works as an architect to fund his band. He’s also working on a solo project under his own name, which he will begin recording in December. Beau shared with Puddlegum, “I’m excited about it. I got a good band put together and ready to go.” Artists involved in his solo project are James McAlister (Sufjan Stevens’ drummer), Jeff Shoop (Sufjan’s bass player, My Brightest Diamond), and Ryan Lindsey on piano.

This summer Cheyenne released The Land Rush, after Beau Jennings and band left Norman, Oklahoma behind for New York City. They didn’t leave their Oklahoma roots behind though, mixing The Whale with Chad Copelin (Bishop Allen) at BlackWatch Studios in Norman. The Whale is being mastered by Alan Douches (Fleetwood Mac, Ben Folds, Sufjan Stevens) at West West Side Mastering.

Founding member, Beau Jennings, blogged about the new album:

Personally, my favorite thing about this record is that it was written and recorded together as a band, which is a big difference from the first album. There are a few exceptions that were unavoidable in terms of getting a true 4 way input from everyone but I know that Heath [Fisher], Josh [Harper], Ben [King] and I are very proud of this album, which we are calling it ‘The Whale’.

Cheyenne’s CD release show is set for December 8 at Joe’s Pub in New York City. They will perform with Denison Witmer and Marla Hansen at the New York City’s Knitting Factory on October 3. The band will be in residency at Piano in New York City in November, performing there every weekend.

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
