Cheyenne: The Land Rush EP

Posted by Flick in News on 06 20th, 2007 | View Comments

From the Clerestory AV press release:

CheyenneAfter releasing their debut LP I Am Haunted, I Am Alive in 2005, Cheyenne quickly began gathering attention from their home base in Norman, Oklahoma. The album featured the band’s “strong songwriting and intricate, layered and beautiful instrumentation.” The musical collective supported the album with regional touring and festival appearances. But the following year brought big changes to the band: a relocation to Brooklyn, a solidified lineup, and naturally, a new group of songs.

Set for release in June 2007 on Oklahoma based label Clerestory AV, The Land Rush EP will be the first recording to benefit from Cheyenne’s change of scenery. While the name conjures their home state’s heritage, the group is also looking to stake their own claim with songs that pick up where Haunted left off. The result is a sound that reflects an unavoidable change in current times. The steady rock and roll groove of This Is The Fashion and the stomping drums of The Army Marching Past give way to a sweet yet sinister ballad in Write It Down In Red. Classic steel guitar and heavy down home harmonies drive home I’ll Be Gone, then a brief focus inward on As Long As I Can settles in before the conclusion becomes eerily clear on the power pop heavy Horsepower.

And this time it’s the work of a genuine, true-blue working band. Founding member and singer/songwriter Beau Jennings is joined by Heath Fisher on drums, Ben King on bass, Josh Harper on guitar, Rob Stephenson on pedal steel, and songwriter and Starlight Mints pianist Ryan Lindsey. A few friends drop by this time as well to lend their talents, with backup vocals from New York City anti-folk singer Jaymay, drums from James McAlister of Ester Drang and Sufjan Stevens‘ backing band, and guitar work from Josh Jones of the Evangelicals.

The Land Rush EP is the predecessor to Cheyenne’s second full length album, which is scheduled to be released before the end of 2007.

    about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
