Camera Obscura: quiet release of If Looks Could Kill EP

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 01 31st, 2007 | View Comments

Camera ObscuraCamera Obscura quietly released an EP/single for If Looks Could Kill, the third single for Let's Get Out Of This Country. The EP, titled after the single, offers up two additional songs: Hands Up Baby, and Alaska. The EP was released via Elefant Records in Europe and Merge Records in North America on January 22. If Looks Could Kill EP is offered in CD, digital, and vinyl format, with the vinyl version adding a cover of The Paris Sisters' I Love How You Love Me as a fourth track.

Hands Up Baby is a dialogue between a splitting couple caught in a violent argument, with heavy words such as, "Now you don't look so well. Turn that gun back on yourself, and take a load off baby." Alaska has a similar feel to Tears for Affairs, backing off the reverb for a dry mix.

Camera ObscuraElefant Records explains the bonus tracks:
"Hands Up Baby" (a duet by Kenny McKeeve and Tracyanne Campbell, recorded during the main album sessions in Sweden) and the very recent song Alaska, recorded on the last weekend of October [2006] by Paul Savage (THE DELGADOS) at Chem19 Studios in Glasgow (where have also recorded, among others, Vashti Bunyan, TRASH CAN SINATRAS, Scout Niblett or TEENAGE FANCLUB)."

Camera Obscura is halfway through a US/Canada tour with The Essex Green. Portastatic joins them for the final four shows. "Afterwards, the six-piece will move to Australia for seven dates there, and will immediately follow their unstoppable international tour with more shows in several territories in Asia. Their comeback to Europe is due for the spring of 2007, with a new UK tour in March and more Spanish shows in April," mentions Elefant Records.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
