Camera Obscura: My Maudlin Career

Posted by Flick in Media, Mp3 Singles on 02 9th, 2009 | View Comments

Camera Obscura have posted a their title track of their upcoming album, My Maudlin Career, set to arrive on April 20th via 4AD (April 21st in the US). You can download the song for free after subscribing to their email list. The first single will be French Navy, scheduled to be released several weeks before My Maudlin Career hits the stores.

If the album title is descriptive of their new album, look up maudlin in the dictionary and you’ll find, “self-pityingly or tearfully sentimental, often through drunkenness.” And if this is the case then My Maudlin Career will certainly please their fans from Scotland and abroad. The title track hints at a sentimental album, but don’t take my word for it… take a listen:

Carey Lander wrote on Myspace:
“I’d also like to annouce that due to family commitments (including being a proud dad) Nigel will no longer be a full time member of Camera Obscura. But watch out for him popping up at live appearances from time to time.”

My Maudlin Career follows Camera Obscura’s 2006 album, Let’s Get Out Of This Country. They toured extensively for two years, releasing numerous vinyl singles and b-sides. I’m sure they’ll be traveling from their homes in Scotland and performing near you soon. Follow the band’s Twitter for their latest announcements (or if you want to know what they’re doing by the hour).

23 April – Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London
26 April – Barrowlands Ballroom, Glasgow
16 March – The Lexington, London
24 March – The Bell House, Brooklyn, NY

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
