The Boy Least Likely To: recording new album after January tour

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 12 4th, 2006 | View Comments

The Boy Least Likely ToThe Boy Least Likely To is setting up for a January tour across the UK. Peter Hobbs shared with Puddlegum, "we'll be taking out The Little Ones as main support and we're hoping to add another band but it's not 100% confirmed yet."

The Boy Least Likely To also shared this exciting news with Puddlegum: "After the tour we are straight back into our little home made studio bunker to attempt to finish the next album. About ten songs are written so far, we've made demos etc and it's just starting to take some sort of shape." Their sophomore album recording session will continue four years after their debut album began. The twee pop duo started their first album in 2002, spending a year tucked away in their home studio with little pressure or expectations.

The Best Party Ever was released in February of 2005 on their own indie label, Too Young To Die Records, and critics in the UK loved it; Pitchfork listed the album in the top 50 albums of 2005. Since the album was completed in 2003, nearly every song from The Best Party Ever has been released as a single. Now that The Boy Least Likely To has been given such wide exposure such as their tour with James Blunt, they won't have the luxury of being unknown with little pressure from the outside world.

The Boy Least Likely ToCheck out the band's website (or MySpace) and listen to their cover of Faith (by George Michael). The recording sounds great, with better definition and mixing than the band's debut could afford. The song's liner notes explain that while the band was trying to decide what song to cover, "we sat around scratching our heads and twiddling our thumbs, and then Amanda Applewood suggested trying 'Faith' by George Michael and we laughed at her as usual. But then we did try it, just to humour her more than anything. And it was weird. It sounded like us. Somehow. It sounded like The Boy Least Likely To. We put some recorders on it and some banjos and some hand claps. And that was it really. Nothing else needed."

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
