Bowerbirds: Hymns For a Dark Horse

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 06 12th, 2007 | View Comments

BowerbirdsBowerbirds will be releasing their debut full-length Hymns For a Dark Horse on July 10, available now for pre-order. Burley Time Records, a new Raleigh, North Carolina label startup, signed the band and sent the band into the studio in the Fall of 2006.

The sound of Bowerbirds will most likely attract fans The Arcade Fire and The National; acoustic, with a naturally recorded sound, strings that build a backdrop to the melody, a soundscape of backing vocals, and a melodious accordion. John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats called them his "new favorite band in forever." Such praise cannot be taken lightly.

Bowerbirds began as a project duo comprised of Beth Tacular and Phil Moore. Mark Paulson did more than produced the album; he helped develop their sound so much that he found himself joining the band when his own, Ticonderoga, broke up. "We want everyone to know that Mark plays much more than just a bit part in our band. He plays the violin, piano, the bass drum, and now fills crevases that we could not have before imagined being filled with his feet and synthesizers! Oh yes, and he recorded our new album. He is a sweet man and is invaluable."

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
