Bob Dylan: Beyond Here Lies Nothin’
Bob Dylan has posted a new song, Beyond Here Lies Nothin’, on his website promoting the next Dylan studio album, Together Through Life. This will be his forty-sixth album since he started his illustrious career in 1962, and will be his first studio album since Modern Times was release in 2006. One listen is enough to reveal that Dylan is continuing to broach new ground and explore new avenues of music.
Mixing country flavors with blues, Beyond Here Lies Nothin’ takes Dylan in yet another exploration. Influenced by the Chess records of the fifties, Dylan’s new song, Beyond Here Lies Nothin’, has a calculated give and take feel between blues licks and the accordion and horns. Bob first began working on this album when he was asked to write a ballad for an upcoming movie, My Own Love Song, directed by Olivier Dahan and starring Forest Whitaker and Renee Zellweger.
Since Bob Dylan unwittingly became the voice of his generation in the 1960s, he has refused to pander to genres that might define him. Mixing electric guitars with “pure” folk in 1965 caught off guard the many groups that used his music as their vehicle. He carried on this motion three albums later in 1968 by exploring country music. This continuous rediscovery of self that Dylan has traversed for the past forty-nine years continues with his new album, Together Through Life.
Expect the new album to be released on April 28th, adding to the 25,000,000 albums the Dylan has already sold. This follows his Platinum 2006 studio album Modern Times, which debuted at #1 on Billboard Top 200.
