Benzos: release Coup d’état EP for free

Posted by Flick in Puddlegum Archives on 12 19th, 2007 | View Comments

Benzos - Coup d’étatBenzos has decided to treat their fans with a free download of Coup d’état. This marks their first independent release. Benzos has also posted two remixes from Branches on Myspace that are well worth checking out.

Coup d’état was written while they were on tour, supporting their recent release of Branches, and they “decided to slip it into a set in August at the Knitting Factory.” The crowd response persuaded Benzos to keep the song in their set-list.

Instead of waiting to record the song, Benzos placed the microphones and arranged the tracks and made it available as a free download. Two b-sides were added to the mix, We Have Names and Blue & White, and released it as the Coup d’état EP.

“The Band recently had the idea to ‘clean out the vault’, so-to-speak, and make these 2 b-sides that were cut from Branches available to fans for free. Putting out this new track, Coup d’état, was the perfect time to couple these all together. And with the holidays coming up it seemed appropriate to do it this way, giving the fans a little gift. Both of these songs are very different tracks. We Have Names is more rock oriented, while Blue & White plays with trip hop beats, stripped down instrumentation and soulful vocals.”

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
