Beirut: new album this fall

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 03 14th, 2007 | View Comments

Beirut Zach Condon of Beirut has shared with Puddlegum that they have begun recording their follow-up to the Lon Gisland EP . "New album should be done for the fall, I believe." The recording will include the nine piece band that recorded on the Lon Gisland EP, minus Kelly Pratt who is now with The Arcade Fire.

Europe will be treated with a Beirut tour in June and July. Expect to see more information announced soon. To add to his summer schedule, "Beirut will be travelling north to the friendly, almost French, environs of Canada to record with Owen of Final Fantasy for his new album."

Beirut will be performing tonight (March 14) at South by Southwest, on Emo's Main Stage at 10:30pm. Blonde Redhead, Mountain Goats, Emma Pollack, and Wolf & Cub will be joining him. Then, on March 16, Beirut will be simulcasting for KEXP at Austin City Limits at 7pm.

Zach CondonBeirut has released Pompeii EP , a two-track album, exclusive to Emusic. Beirut shared with Puddlegum that the two songs are, "old songs of mine from the good ol' days," recorded when he was "18 or 17, I forget." Fountains and Tramways and Napoleon on the Bellerophon show the maturity of Zach Condon's voice in his late teens, experimenting with trumpets, piano, an accordion, and layers of drum loops.

Zach Condon is Beirut, and his band includes Nicholas Petree on drums, Periin Cloutier on cello and accordion, Jason Poranksi on guitar and mandolin, Paul Collins on bass, piano and ukulele, Park Sloper on baritone sax, clarinet and glockenspiel, ukulele, and mandolin, Kristen Ferebe on violin, Tracy Pratt on trumpet, flugel horn, and Heather Trost (A Hawk and a Hacksaw) on violin, viola.

Jeremy Barnes (A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Neutral Milk Hotel), the man that produced Beirut's first two albums, relocated to Budapest, Hungary in February to record an EP with the Hun Hangar Ensemble.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
