Beirut: European tour and Elephant Gun single

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 06 19th, 2007 | View Comments

BeirutZach Condon and Beirut are back in Europe for a spotted tour, playing seven shows in eighteen days. Condon and company will perform in Ireland, UK, Poland, Turkey, France, Germany, and Greece, bringing Beirut back to the land that first turned Zach on to Baltic Gypsy music.

It isn't often that a five song EP leads to a three song single, but fans of Beirut will be excited to hear that the Elephant Gun single is being released on June 25 via 4ad Records. Printed on vinyl, the single will guide the stylus through two other songs: Transatlantique and Le Moribond / My Family's Role In The World Revolution. Elephant Gun was originally released on Lon Gisland EP, as was My Family's Role In The World Revolution.

Zach Condon of Beirut has shared with Puddlegum that they have begun recording their follow-up to the Lon Gisland EP . "New album should be done for the fall, I believe." The recording will include the nine piece band that recorded on the Lon Gisland EP, minus Kelly Pratt who is now with The Arcade Fire.

“Elephant Gun” is anything to go by, pretty pop songs sung to a backing of interesting arrangements. “Elephant Gun” has a shuffly, waltzy feel. It’s all odd stringed instruments, woozy brass and oompah percussion. It’s really rather charming, although it’s the instrumentation that holds the attention rather than the song itself, which is pretty thin and flimsy. COOL. Thanks for sharing..

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
